"A journey through one of the most breathtaking countries I have had the pleasure of exploring. From the chaotic yet insightful city of Hanoi, trekking through indigenous Hmong communities to riding bikes through the rice fields of Hoi-An, Vietnam captured ME just as much as my camera could capture IT". - Ashley K. "While completing my first degree, when I was 21 years of age, I studied abroad in the country of Guatemala. My eyes were peeled open and I have never been the same. A few years ago, I went back with my camera to capture one of my favorite places, as well as photograph a medical clinic situated in Santa Cruz, Lago Atitlan. The Mayan Medical Aid, was started by MD Craig A. Sinkinson, and provides free healthcare for the Mayan indigenous of Lago, Atitlan. Along with a few photos from the clinic, the doctor arranged for me to meet the eldest mid-wife in the village, and between bright smiles, she allowed me to photograph her profound and giving presence". -Ashley K. Hopping around Europe.
"Amongst these many moments captured in Europe, the portraits displayed in this collection of the middle-aged man sitting outside, are of known journalist, Jacques Bergier. At the time, I had no idea who this man was, but as I was walking around a market in Paris, I spotted him. He had such a unique, strong, profound and interesting face that I could tell upon first glance that he had many stories. After he granted me permission to take his photo, we engaged in ongoing and intriguing conversation that was splattered with moments of the, sometimes, inevitable language barrier. However, I have learned from my travels, when people have a connection, the language barrier means very little. About a year later, I was contacted by a publication in Paris, France asking me permission to use these photos to honor Jacques, who had just passed away. Of course, I responded, 'oui et merci'". - Ashley K. Barnes

France, Sicily, Switzerland, and Monaco.
"When I was 26-years of age, behind my office desk in Chicago, all I dreamed of was travel, adventure, learning language, and connecting to the world. So, I put on one backpack, and moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina where I knocked on doors trying to find English teaching jobs. Three years later, I was still there. My camera became my journal and at first was simply a place for me to go when I needed a creative outlet or was feeling the distance of home. People started asking about my photography, wanting to hire me for various projects, and inquiring about buying a piece. These precious photos are from my first years as a photographer, and thus, my favorite collection. There is pure heart here along with scattered pleasure and passionate connection for documenting an incredible part of our world."- Ashley K. Barnes
